Bristol launches new citywide Action Plans to transform our local food system

The Bristol Good Food 2025–27 Action Plans have been published this month. Charlotte Jackson, Bristol Good Food 2030 Communications & Engagement Coordinator, shares how these plans mark the next phase in the city’s ambitious partnership effort to create a fairer, greener and more resilient food system.

The plans consider how the city’s food is produced, shared, bought and consumed, and look to tackle the health, ecological, climate and cost-of-living crises, all of which food plays a key role.

Co-developed by the Bristol Good Food Partnership – a network of community groups, food businesses, public bodies and growers – and coordinated by Bristol Food Network, the plans bring together ideas, energy and action from across the city. The Action Plans are part of Bristol’s One City approach.

Each plan focuses on a key theme within the food system – from reducing waste and supporting nature-friendly growing, to improving access to good food and helping independent food businesses to thrive. Together, they provide a roadmap for coordinated citywide action over the next two and a half years, toward food that is good for people and communities, climate and nature, and workers and businesses.

“I think collaboration is vital when trying to create systems change.”

Stakeholder, Urban Growing Action Plan

Developed collaboratively by over 120 organisations and members of the Bristol Good Food Partnership, including Feeding Bristol, the Soil Association, UWE, Bristol University, Kate’s Kitchen, Fareshare South West, Lush Greens, Black South West Network, and Avon Wildlife Trust, to name a few.

“This is about taking practical, collaborative action on the food challenges we face as a city. These plans reflect the knowledge, work and commitment of people across Bristol – and show what’s possible when we act together.”

Alice Peperell, Bristol Good Food 2030 Partnership

The new Action Plans outline the actions being taken toward the Partnership’s 2030 outcomes in the Bristol Good Food 2030 – A One City Framework for Action. They align with the One City Food Equality Strategy and Action Plan, which forms the food justice strand of Bristol Good Food. The development of the Action Plans has been funded by Bristol City Council and The National Lottery Community Fund.
