One City Approach
Working collaboratively with city partners to accelerate progress towards our cities climate and ecological goals.
Responding to the climate and ecological emergencies
The Bristol One City Approach brings together partners from different sectors, organisations and communities to deliver on the One City Plan – a timeline of goals which sets out a path to a 2050 Bristol that is a ‘fair, healthy and sustainable city, a city of hope and aspiration, where everyone can share in its success.’
The Partnership played a central role in setting up the One City Environment Board and the Bristol Advisory Committee on Climate Change in 2019 and continues to work with them in supporting the city to deliver on the One City Goals and meet its climate and ecological targets.
One City Environment Board
The goals of the One City Plan are overseen by six thematic Boards, each taking a lead on driving forwards action and identifying opportunities for partnership working: Children and Young People, Economy and Skills, Environment, Homes and Communities, Transport, and Health and Wellbeing.
The Environment Board also developed the One City Climate Strategy and the Ecological Emergency Strategy and continues to coordinate efforts to achieve their ambitious targets.
Bristol Advisory Committee on Climate Change (BACCC)
The committee of independent members works alongside the One City Boards to provide technical advice on climate change to help the city of Bristol to understand and accelerate progress towards its ambition to be a carbon neutral and climate resilient city by 2030.
The committee meets regularly and acts as a critical friend to the One City Environment Board. In 2023 it published a progress review on the One City Climate Strategy which includes 12 recommendations.

Mission Net Zero
Mission Net Zero is a £5million initiative funded by Innovate UK ‘s Net Zero Living programme. It aims to reduce the region’s carbon emissions by addressing some of the barriers to progress such as a lack of investment and not enough people trained in retrofit skills.
We’re working with several partners across the region to support three communities to develop energy projects, explore further funding opportunities for regional climate action, and create green jobs and training locally.
