Welcoming new directors

We are pleased to introduce three new members of our board of directors following a recent recruitment round. Leigh Hoyle, Tim Temple and Alex Garrood joined the board of Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership on 1 May 2025.

Our new directors will work with the current board and staff team to help the organisation deliver our new 2025-2027 strategy, expanding our work across Bristol and the West of England region to catalyse a fast and fair transition.

Leigh Hoyle

Leigh has worked and lived in Bristol for the past 30 years. It is important to her to be able to positively contribute to the environmental issues facing us all and she is really pleased to join the Partnership and work alongside such a dedicated team.

Originally a Chartered Building Surveyor, Leigh re qualified as a solicitor at Burges Salmon in 2002, initially as a construction projects lawyer which took her to Hong Kong and Japan working on large scale projects. Returning to the UK Leigh moved in house working on a variety of commercial matters in the public and private sector including advising on transformational change projects, compliance, employment and construction. Leigh hopes to bring her breadth of legal and commercial experience to the Partnership, supporting its development as it moves into the next chapter of its journey.

“The hard work of the team has already shown that there are some really exciting and important projects in the pipeline. As we face big environmental challenges I am looking forward to contributing to Bristol’s net zero strategy.”

Alex Garrood

Alex has been living in Bristol since 2018. Training up as a chartered accountant at EY in Bristol, where he was for six years, he has worked with a number of businesses in the South West.

Alex is currently the Head of Finance at CO2balance, a company on Queens Square in central Bristol, which works with NGOs and partner organisation across Africa to implement carbon-reduction projects which improve the lives of people in rural communities. These projects are primarily focussed on the provision of safe drinking water in these communities, reducing wood consumption for fuel, improving people’s health and promoting gender equality.

Alex is also the Treasurer of the Bristol-based charity, Dovetail Orchestra, which provides a space for asylum-seekers and refugees, building connections through music and supporting musical learning on a regular weekly basis.

Alex will be adding his experience in finance and financial strategy to the Board of Directors as the Partnership contributes towards a net zero, nature-rich and socially just Bristol by 2030.

“I’m keen to get more involved in helping out communities in Bristol and working with Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership seemed a natural fit to assist on fantastic projects which have a direct impact on the local people of Bristol.”

Tim Temple

Tim has been connected to Bristol’s climate and nature movement for over a decade—both professionally and personally. He is motivated by Bristol’s bold, community-led approach to climate action, and the way it brings people together across sectors and backgrounds.

Over the years, Tim has worked alongside Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership in various ways—supporting events, contributing to strategy workshops, unlocking funding, and celebrating milestones.

Tim’s professional background is rooted in environmental and community development. He has led national programmes on sustainable transport with Sustrans and championed better food systems through schools and communities with the Soil Association. More recently, Tim has worked in organisations supporting local communities to lead their own change—including time at The National Lottery Community Fund supporting the south west’s VCSE sector; and now at Locality, the national membership network supporting local community organisations to be strong and successful.

“I’ve always believed that the answers to the climate and nature crisis lie in the power of communities, and this is something I see reflected in the Partnership’s work every day. What excites me about the Partnership is its commitment to collaboration, equity, and action.”

The Partnership team would like to thank our existing board of directors for their support and guidance., as well as previous directors and our supporting members.
