Bristol BID launch consultation on new Greening Plan for Bristol City Centre
Bristol Business Improvement District (BID) has launched a consultation on a new Green Infrastructure Action Plan for Bristol city centre, outlining proposals for a £500k investment in greening over the next four years.
Anyone with an interest in greening our city centre can submit their ideas and respond to other ideas via an online map – submit your ideas here.
To support the development of the new plan, the BID has appointed Bristol-based design studio MOOWD (Making Our Own Way in Design). MOOWD were appointed following a competitive application process assessed by a panel from the BID’s new Sustainable and Green Working Group.
Working alongside the BID team, MOOWD will help shape a series of ideas to enhance green infrastructure across the unified BID area, drawing on consultation feedback gathered through exploratory walks, workshops, and the PlaceChangers mapping tool. The work will result in a range of proposals to improve biodiversity, climate resilience and the quality of public spaces across Bristol city centre.
The team have already undertaken a workshop focussing on Spike Island and Wapping Wharf along with Exploratory Walks around Broadmead, Canon’s Marsh, Temple Quay, and Redcliffe. Further walks are planned, with the BID also offering companies the opportunity to organise their own CPD walks with the BID team.
Tom Swithinbank, Senior Project Manager, Bristol BID encourages people to have their say:
“We are eager for people in Bristol to contribute their ideas to this process. We know that people are passionate about seeing the city centre become a greener, more attractive, and sustainable place to spend time. This consultation will help us prioritise our £500k investment in Green Infrastructure over the next four years and follows our investment in our new Urban Gardener to maintain our existing greening projects”
Michael Cowdy, Director of MOOWD, added:
“We’re delighted to be supporting Bristol BID on this important project. This is an exciting opportunity to bring together ideas from businesses, communities and professionals to create greener, healthier and more resilient spaces across the city centre.”
Claire Jacob, Head of Communications and Partnerships at Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership:
“The BID are valued partners in our Climate Action Programme and it’s great to see them launching this consultation. Enhancing and protecting nature is central to the Partnership’s work, so we encourage our members and supporters to share their ideas and help demonstrate the appetite for greening the centre of Bristol.”
In summer 2026, the BID will run a design competition inviting anyone interested in showcasing their work and developing ideas for the city to submit their designs for locations around the city centre.
Following the publication of the Green Infrastructure Action Plan, the BID will invest in a range of interventions around the city centre. These projects will add to the 100 planters and several pockets of green spaces that the BID already maintain via their Urban Gardener team and their recently launched Gardening Club.
